Intense Pulsed Light Therapy
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a treatment that uses gentle pulses of light on the skin around the eyes to improve dry eye symptoms.
It works by reducing inflammation and helping unblock the meibomian glands, which produce the oil layer of your tears. When these glands are working properly, it helps keep your eyes moist and comfortable.
IPL can also improve blood flow and reduce bacteria that contribute to dry eye, offering long-term relief for many patients.
BlephEx™
When traditional lid hygiene methods fail to effectively control bacterial buildup and remove eyelid debris, leading to chronic irritation and inflammation in anterior and Demodex blepharitis, BlephEx can serve as an effective in-office alternative.
The BlephEx procedure involves an optometrist using a specialized handpiece with a medical-grade micro-sponge to gently spin along the edges of the eyelids and lashes, acting as an enhanced lid wipe. This process removes stubborn scurf and debris while exfoliating the eyelids.
The treatment is quick, typically lasting 10-20 minutes, and is well tolerated by most patients. Following the procedure, many patients report that their home treatments become more effective in managing symptoms. To maintain relief, the procedure is usually repeated every 6-12 months.
Imaging and Expression
Tear film assessment using NITBUT (Non-Invasive Tear Break-Up Time) equipment measures how long your tear film stays stable on the surface of your eye before it starts to break up.
This test helps us understand how well your tears are functioning and if they are evaporating too quickly, which can cause dry eye. By pinpointing issues with your tear film, we can recommend more targeted treatments to improve moisture retention and eye comfort.
